Welcome, everyone! I’ve set up this blog as a way to check in with everyone during our trip to the British Virgin Islands, scheduled for June 22nd – June 30th.

With less than two days left until Alicia and I board our flight out of Seattle, we’re proceeding with high-speed packing and last-minute knowledge gathering. I admit, I’m getting most of the good stuff out of TravelTalk’s BVI boards. There’s a group of five or six regulars there that’ll be in the area around the same time we will; there’s even a birthday party scheduled for the 28th at Jost Van Dyke’s “Foxy’s” bar.
Now, some valuable links as we close in on our departure.

This earlier trip in March of 2006 was organized and run by my sea instructor and mentor, Captain Mike Rice of Puget Sound Sailing Institute. There’s even a movie I put together of the trip on Jumpcut:

Charts
GeoGarage’s NOAA/Google Earth Hybrid, Centered on the BVI
If you haven’t seen what GeoGarage is doing with marine charts yet, you need to see this link. It’s zoomed right in on top of where we’ll be traveling, and you can see all the marine data, from depths, to anchorages, right up to those underwater cables we always seem to snag.
I’ll find a way to show you all how we’re progressing, and will update it as often as I can reach a signal. Stay tuned to this blog for more updates!

The Moorings 3800 – Our Vessel
Six of us will be sharing this boat for eight days. There’s always room to sleep outside under the stars if the snoring gets too loud…
So: Where to from here? Bookmark/RSS this blog: I’ll be uploading photos, video clips, maps, and stories as we travel the islands. I can’t guarantee a good signal all of the time, but when the news breaks, it’ll be here first!
Until then, wish us safe travels, and we’ll see you soon!
